Internet Marketing Keys - The List

Mailing Lists

Almost certainly right now you have more than one e-mail newsletter in your inbox.

These monthly, weekly or even sometimes daily deliveries are one of the best ways Internet Marketers have of spreading theirs and others' offers and if you've looked into Internet Marketing yourself you'll most likely have read more than one Marketing expert making the case for having a 'list' of your own.

But needing one and getting one are a big jump and there are several concerns when approaching list building and e-mail marketing.

Building your List.

Is tricky, well I've found it tricky so far despite the principle being quite simple.

All you really need is a site (easiest being something like a WordPress blog) and then a sign up form provided by the auto responder of your choice. Then drive traffic to your site and offer somekind of incentive either free info or other benefit to get your visitors to give up that most valuable of resources, their e-mail address.

But lets break this down a bit.

First we need a site, which requires something to have the site be about (a niche)

Then you've got to get content, and not just some content. You've got to make sure it's of value and unique enough to stand out in a content heavy environment.

Third is the Auto Responder. Do you pay for the best right up front? or test out your technique with something free?

Fourth we need to think Incentives. This will be decided by your Niche, but you've still got to find whatever it is and make sure you've got the rights to give it away free, or make your own free gift from either your own know how or Rights free re-brandable content.

Now you've got to plan out and create your Newsletter and the additional offers you're going to add into your communication (making sure they don't clash or detract from your main thrust)

Once all of that is in place then it's down to testing your system and driving the right traffic, and then you've got to work out how to manage your list and be sure not to betray the trust of your recipients with dodgy offers or pushing the tolerance of both spam filters and the willingness of people on your list to open your mail.

Some Suggestions

So far in my experience to get started with both affiliate marketing and certainly with list building you really want to work with Wordpress and Clickbank.

While it is possible to be successful at affiliate marketing simply by getting a Domain and then redirecting it towards an affiliate offer from Clickbank. If you intend on maximising your promoting efforts and also giving yourself the chance to build a list then having a site is a must.

Getting hold of cheap hosting is pretty easy these days, just make sure it's got plenty Databases free for installing Wordpress. Then get to Clickbank and find a product with a good Gravity (above 20 for sure) once you have that you can then choose a good Domain name and begin locating appropriate content to flesh out your site and theme your give away.

As for your actual newsletter, well for examples of those simply go and sign up to some!

There are literally thousands of sites that will be more than happy to send you their newsletter and rather than just reading the offers within or hitting delete, take sometime to study the structure of the newsletter, how many words does it have? what does it offer? where are the links? etc. etc..

You can even think back to figure out which ones worked best for you. Personally I've found that you really don't need that much content or that much regularity (in fact keeping the number of e-mails per week low will seriously help with retention) and having somekind of continuing course or raft of free e-books will keep your readers hooked and interested enough to read your other offers.

If you've signed up to the affiliate system of a certain product (and it's always worth checking the landing page of your chosen Clickbank affiliate for their affiliate services area) then you'll most likely be given some free resources to help get your campaign started.

Depending on the thought thats gone into the affiliate area you might even be given enough blog posts or even entire video courses that you can turn into either your incentive or even your newsletter.

New content is preferable but if your pressed for time then these can make a good addition, or spring board to get you started.

Conclusion

An e-mail list is an amazing tool for online income, it's a lot of work and needs planning out before you jump in as the complexities get multiplied as your list grows (or if you have multiple groups coming form different LP's) so I think it's recommended to do some research before you add it to your system.

But the good thing is that with a list you turn a one time visitor into someone that your building a relationship with, and as your number of sites and offers grow so does your potential for getting people to sign up to your list, so it's one of those great features of Internet Marketing where you add something into your system that then begins to grow on it's own and add another flow to your income stream.

My recommendation would be if you don't already have one to get hold of either Get Response on the free first 100 deal or just play around with YMLP's (Your Mailing List Provider - While one of the best free options it also offers a paid service, so use this promo code EJ0ETZ to receive 15% off if you upgrade) free option and get the kinks ironed out of your List building and utilizing before going for a yearly contract with Aweber. Once you've gotten to the automation stage and your confident in your offers a list is still and will be for the foreseeable future one of the Key features of Internet Marketing.
